The Flood Gate at the Pond

Previous | Home | Next

Flood Gate

The Garnier Brothers made a lot of improvements to Rancho Los Encinos. Among these was ringing the pond with stone and installing this flood control gate.

The pond is fed by the artesian well, and used to drain into a stream that drained into the Los Angeles River. It now drains into the flood control system.

The initial "G" and the date "1872" are visible on the gate.
